Dunlap Named Molten/NEC Defensive Player of the Week
Senior Rachel Dunlap was named Molten/NEC Defensive Player of the Week after helping lead her team to two victories this past weekend.
Central Connecticut senior middle blocker Rachel Dunlap was named the Molten/Northeast Conference Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced Monday. Dunlap led CCSU to two victories over the weekend and helped the Blue Devils secure their 12th consecutive playoff berth. The Blue Devils defeated FDU and Sacred Heart in straight sets.
Dunlap combined to post 18 blocks over the two matches. The senior registered 10 total blocks against FDU on Saturday with eight block assists and two solo rejections.
Dunlap continued to dominate the net on defense as she added seven blocks on Sunday against Sacred Heart, including another solo.
Dunlap was not charged with a blocking error in either of the matches. Over CCSU's six sets she averaged 3.00 blocks per set.
On offense, she also chipped in with 16 kills and a .343 hitting mark.
This award marks the fourth Molten/NEC weekly honor for Dunlap this season.
The Blue Devils will travel to Brooklyn, NY this weekend for the Northeast Conference Women's Volleyball Tournament. CCSU earned the fourth seed after finishing the regular season with a 7-7 record in NEC play. They will face-off against the first seeded Blackbirds of LIU (14-0 NEC) in the NEC Semifinal match on Nov. 22. The time of the match is TBA.
