Volleyball Opens NEC Play with a Victory
The Central Connecticut volleyball team earned a four set victory over Bryant in its 2014 Northeast Conference opener.
The Central Connecticut volleyball team earned a four set victory over Bryant in its 2014 Northeast Conference opener. The Blue Devils were led by three players with double-digit kills and a 46-assist performance by junior Makenna Lommori.
The Blue Devils captured the opening set 25-18 and then dropped the second set before winning the third set 25-22 and the fourth 25-11. Bryant won the second set 25-23.
Junior Heather Trueman and sophomore Cassidy Stankowkis shared a team-high with 14 kills. Senior Rachel Dunlap contributed 11 kills and played her usually strong defense at the net.
Dunlap contributed to six of CCSU's nine blocks. She was joined at the net by Lommori (4 asst), Stankowski (1 solo, 1 asst.), sophomores Brooke Schwab (2 asst) and Nicole Dean (2 asst).
The Blue Devils were exceptional in reception defense with five players registering double-digit digs. Trueman and Stankowski each had 15 digs, while Lommori (12), sophomore Rachel Fish (11) and senior Brittany Schumacher (10) also reached double-digit.
The Blue Devils will play a pair of home matches next weekend on Saturday and Sunday, both will start at 1 p.m.
