Volleyball Falls to Indiana in Opener
The Central Connecticut volleyball team will play UConn and New Hampshire tomorrow.
The Central Connecticut women's volleyball team fell to Indiana in its 2014 season opener on Friday afternoon. The Blue Devils (0-1) and Hoosiers (1-0) were both playing their first match of the 2014 season at the UConn Classic. CCSU will play the host Huskies tomorrow at 12:30 p.m. and then match-up with New Hampshire at 5 p.m.
The Blue Devils grabbed an early lead in the first and second sets, but the Hoosiers came back in both cases.
Indiana won the match in three sets by scores of 25-21, 25-14 and 25-11.
The Blue Devils were led offensively by freshman Nicole Celarek who connected for eight kills on 19 attacks for a .263 hitting percentage.
Juniors Makenna Lommori and Ashley Lennington shared a team-high with nine assists each.
Defensively, senior Brittany Schumacher posted a team-high nine digs. Senior Rachel Dunlap contributed to three blocks as did freshman Maddie Smith.
Junior Heather Trueman and Lommori each had four kills to follow Celarek's team-high.
Indiana was led by Morgan Leach who collected 10 kills and hit .444 on the day.
