Lommori, NEC ROY, First Team All-NEC

Freshman Makenna Lommori was named Northeast Conference Volleyball Rookie of the Year on Friday night. She also earned First Team All-NEC honors at the conference's annual pre-tournament banquet. Seniors Jamie Rademacher and Emily Cochran and sophomore Brittany Schumacher earned Second Team All-NEC honors.
Lommori made an instant impact on the Blue Devils during her freshman season. She served as the team's primary setter and also contributed on the attack and on defense.
She posted 973 assists and a 9.01 assist per set average. She also contributed 120 kills and a .299 hitting percentage to the offense.
On defense, Lommori contributed 103 total blocks, including 14 solo. She averaged 0.95 blocks for the season, but was even better in NEC action as she had 1.19 blocks per set. Lommori also helped in reception with 211 digs and a 1.95 dig per set average.
Her play this season earned her seven Molten/NEC Rookie of the Week Awards. Along the way she also grabbed a pair of Molten/NEC Defensive Player of the Year Awards.
Lommori's play this season earned the praise of head coach Linda Sagnelli who throughout the season commented that Makenna "did not play like a freshman."
Rademacher was named Molten/NEC Player of the Week three times during an outstanding senior season. She posted 236 kills and a .361 hitting percentage, which ranks among the schools top-five season totals. She also contributed 103 blocks during the season and during NEC play she blocked 1.19 per set.
Cochran earns second team honors for the second consecutive season. This year she led the team with 343 kills and 3.33 kills/set average. Cochran also posted 260 digs, which helped her become the second player in school history with 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs in her career.
Schumacher posted 404 digs and a 3.78 dig/set average this season. She saw action in every match, splitting time between libero and defensive specialist. Schumacher also contributed 47 assists and 20 service aces to the offense.
Lommori is the Blue Devils fourth rookie of the year. She joins, current senior, Cochran (2009), Amanda Bayer (2007) and Jamie Baumert (2006) who previously won the award.
Lommori is the first CCSU player to earn rookie of the year and first team All-NEC honors in the same season.
The Blue Devils finished the regular season with a 17-12 record and a 12-4 NEC record. They enter the NEC Tournament as the #3 seed and will play #2 Robert Morris on Saturday, Nov. 17, at 5:30 p.m. The Game will be played at #1 LIU Brooklyn and the winner will play the winner of the LIU/Saint Francis (PA) semifinal. The championship match will be played at LIU on Sunday.
