Volleyball Falls to St. John's in Four
The Blue Devils drop the first game of the CCSU Invitational.
The Central Connecticut volleyball team fell to St. John's on Friday afternoon. The Blue Devils (2-0) trailed 2-0 heading to the third set, but rebounded with a 25-21 victory. The Red Storm (5-1) were able to close out the match with a 25-20 victory in the fourth game.
St. John's (5-1) started the match on fire earning 17 kills in the first set. The Red Storm claimed the first two sets 25-19 and 25-8. Central battled back in the third set and ultimately came away with a 25-21 victory before eventually dropping the fourth set 25-20.
Senior Emily Cochran led the Blue Devils with 12 kills accounting for almost one third of Central's total kills. Senior Jamie Rademacher was second on the team in kills with six and also earned four blocks. Defensively, sophomore Brittany Schumacher led the team with 15 digs followed by freshman Makenna Lommori with nine.
St. John's sophomore Aleksandra Wachowicz tallied a match-high 21 kills followed by freshman Karin Palgutova who had 17.
CCSU returns to action Saturday at 1 p.m. against the Holy Cross Crusaders (0-3) and again at 5:30 to face the Brown Bears (0-0).
