Volleyball Drops NEC Home Opener
The Central Connecticut volleyball team suffered its first NEC loss of the season on Saturday.
The Central Connecticut volleyball team suffered its first NEC loss of the season on Saturday afternoon. The Blue Devils fell in three sets to the visiting Colonials of Robert Morris. Sophomore Rachel Dunlap led CCSU with 10 kills in the match.
The Blue Devils (7-9, 2-1 NEC) and Colonials (6-11, 2-0 NEC) traded points throughout the three sets. Neither squad was able to build a substantial lead and all three sets were tied at 15-15. Robert Morris won by scores of 25-21, 25-22 and 25-22.
In the first set, senior Jamie Rademacher, senior Emily Cochran and Dunlap each recorded three kills. Dunlap was the most efficient of the group posting a .400 hitting percentage.
Dunlap led the squad in kills again in the second set with Rademacher, senior Jennifer Waddill, senior Blaike King, and freshman Makenna Lommori all recording a pair of kills in the game. Cochran finished with three kills in the set and Lommori finished with 12 assists.
The Blue Devils had their best defensive game of the match in the third set. The team posted 14 digs and 4.0 total blocks. Dunlap, King, and Rademacher each assisted on two blocks and freshman Ashley Lenington finished with six digs.
Dunlap finished the match with 10 kills and a .238 hitting percentage. Lindsey Monger of Robert Morris led all hitters with a match-high 15 kills.
Lommori finished with a match-high 33 assists.
On defense, Lenington posted a team-high nine digs and Dunlap contributed to five of the Blue Devils nine blocks.
