Volleyball Wins 10th NEC Match
The Central Connecticut volleyball team earned a 3-1 victory over Saint Francis (PA) on Friday afternoon.
The Central Connecticut volleyball team earned a 3-1 victory over Saint Francis (PA) on Friday afternoon. The Blue Devils were led by 18 kills from senior Emily Cochran. CCSU is now 15-10 on the season an 10-2 in NEC play.
The first two sets of the match went to extra points with the Blue Devils winning the first 26-24 and the Red Flash winning the second 26-24. CCSU won the final two sets by a score of 25-20.
Cochran led the way in the first set with eight kills. Senior Allyson Porter led the defense with eight digs in the opening game.
The Blue Devils fell in the second set, but senior Jamie Rademacher played well connecting on four-of-five attacks for a .800 hitting percentage.
CCSU won the third set behind a balanced attack, which had five hitters recording multiple kills in the set.
Cochran led the Blue Devils to a fourth set and match victory with seven kills in the final game.
Cochran finished the match with 18 kills and a .277 hitting percentage. She was joined in double-digits by sophomore Rachel Dunlap who had 10 kills and a .444 hitting percentage. Senior Blaike King (9) and Rademacher (8) also had strong hitting games.
Porter led the team in digs with 17 and sophomore Brittany Schumacher was close behind with 14. Cochran also chipped in with nine digs.
At the net, Dunlap led the team with four blocks and freshman Makenna Lommori added a pair.
Lommori also had a match-high 44 assists.
The Blue Devils will continue their road trip with a game tomorrow afternoon at Robert Morris.
