Alterisio, Bardes, McLaughlin Earn All-Region Honors
The trio earned the 2019 United Soccer Coaches All-North Region honors.
Three members of the Central Connecticut women's soccer team earned the United Soccer Coaches All-North Region honors. Sophomore midfielder Roma McLaughlin was named to the First Team, while senior Shauny Alterisio and junior Erica Bardes were named to the Second Team.
This is the second year in a row Alterisio was named to the All-North Region Second Team and second consecutive year women's soccer had three all-region selections. Having earned First Team recognition, McLaughlin is eligible for All-America honors.

McLaughlin led the Blue Devils in points (23) scoring 10 goals and posting three assists. The co-captain was 2-2 in penalty kicks and had four game-winners on the season. She started 17 of 18 matches played and held a .774 shots on goal percentage. The Greencastle County Donegal, Ireland native scored the lone goal in the NEC Championship against Fairleigh Dickinson and was second the in the league in goals and points-per game. Following being named the 2018 Rookie of the Year, McLaughlin was crowned the 2019 Midfielder of the Year.
In her second year as co-captain, Alterisio was a key member of the Blue Devil defense and two-time NEC Defensive Player of the Year. She played in all 22 games, making 21 starts as a senior. The Danbury, CT native had one game-winning goal and three assists on the year and helped Central post nine shutouts. Alterisio's leadership in the backline guided the Blue Devils to a 9-0-1 record at home.
Bardes started in all 22 games for the Central and was second on the team in points (18). She led the team in assists (8) and second on the team in goals (5). The defender scored two goals in the 3-1 semifinal win over Sacred Heart (Nov. 8). Her most notable goal this season was the game-winner in the first round of the NCAA Tournament against Rutgers that came in the final 90 seconds of the match. The Montvale, NJ native posted a .333 shots on goal percentage and was named to All-NEC First Team.
CCSU finished the season 13-5-4 overall and 8-1-1 in NEC play. The Blue Devils won its second consecutive NEC Title, the 10th in program history. The team upset the four-seeded Rutgers in the first round of the NCAA Tournament to advance to the second round for the second time in program history. The season ended with a 1-0 double-overtime loss against West Virginia on Nov. 22.
