Blue Devils Shine in Classroom in Spring Semester
CCSU student-athletes posted an average GPA of 3.24 during the 2020 spring semester.
Central Connecticut student-athletes excelled in the classroom during the Spring 2020 semester. Despite on-campus instruction being interrupted during the Coronavirus pandemic, CCSU's nearly 400 student-athletes managed to compile an average GPA of 3.24.
"Our student-athletes are impressive during the course of a normal school year, but what they managed to accomplish this spring given all of the obstacles they faced is a testament to their ability to succeed in the face of adversity," said Interim Director of Athletics Tom Pincince. "The resilience of our teams, along with the work of our coaches and academic advisors to keep them focused on their coursework, should make everyone proud to be a Blue Devil. We'd like to thank everyone at CCSU for their support of all students during this time, especially our University leadership, our faculty, Academic Affairs, IT and the many counselors who were on hand to provide support."
Central had 13 of its 16 squads post a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better in the spring semester, including nine teams that posted a GPA of at least 3.5. The CCSU volleyball program posted a department-best 3.76 GPA, narrowly besting the women's soccer team's 3.74 GPA. Each of the Blue Devil programs posted a GPA of at least 2.75 and all but one team improved its GPA from the fall to spring.
Individually, 34 CCSU student-athletes attained a perfect 4.0 GPA. While the entire student-athlete population averaged a 3.24 GPA, a total of 104 student-athletes had at least a 3.75 GPA. Furthermore, 171 Blue Devils had at least a 3.5 GPA while completing the semester remotely. More impressive, 259 Central student-athletes, nearly 70 percent of the student-athlete population, achieved a GPA of at least 3.0 during the spring semester.
