Hogan Named NEC Defensive Player of the Week
Emily Hogan posted three assists over the weekend.
Senior Emily Hogan from the Central Connecticut women's soccer team was named the Northeast Conference Defensive Player of the Week, it was announced by the league's office Tuesday afternoon. The Warwick, RI native posted three assists in Central's two wins over the weekend.
Last Friday, Central defeated Robert Morris 5-2 earning its sixth home win of the season and head coach Mick D'Arcy's 200th win at CCSU. The Blue Devils scored in the first two minutes of the game when Hogan found junior Erica Bardes to take a 1-0 lead. After the Colonials cut the lead 3-1 in the second half, Hogan assisted classmate Yo Tachibana for her second goal of the season putting CCSU head 4-1.
On senior day Sunday afternoon against Saint Francis U, Hogan assisted on the game-winning goal scored by junior Tess Atkinson at the 23rd minute. Central closed the regular season without a home loss going 7-0-1 in New Britain and clinched a spot in the 2019 Northeast Conference Tournament.
The team plays its final regular season match on Sunday, Nov. 3 against in-state conference rival Sacred Heart in Fairfield, CT at noon. CCSU will then have five days to prepare for the NEC Tournament starting on Friday, Nov. 8. Seeding and game locations will be determined after all regular season games end on Nov. 3.
