Women's Soccer Crowned #NortheastMadness Champions
The Blue Devils' 2019 win over 13th-ranked Rutgers was voted the top postseason accomplishment of the decade.
Central Connecticut's 2019 women's soccer team was voted the "Top Postseason Performance Since 2000" in the #NortheastMadness Bracket (presented by Nexxt) for its win at Rutgers in the NCAA Tournament. The final round of voting took place on Sunday and the Blue Devils collected 52.2 percent of the vote to top Fairleigh Dickinson men's soccer and its run to the 2001 College Cup Elite 8.
The NCAA Tournament-style #NortheastMadness bracket featured 16 of the most unforgettable postseason performances in the last two decades. The fan voting was conducted via Twitter and featured a bracket made up of four regions.
The Blue Devils' win at Rutgers, which was secured on a late strike from junior Erica Bardes, was seeded No. 3 in its region to begin the 16-team bracket. Before securing the championship, CCSU topped LIU's Brendan Rodney and his 19.97 at the 2016 NCAA Championships in the opening round, before advancing to the final four after topping FDU bowling's 2010 national championship. The women's soccer team moved to the final after narrowly topping the CCSU baseball team's 2019 win over Cal in the semifinals.
