Blayney and Caneen Score in 2-0 Women's Soccer Win Over Holy Cross
Juniors Leah Blayney and Rachel Caneen each scored a goal as the Central Connecticut women's soccer team improved to 3-1-3 on the season with a 2-0 shutout of Holy Cross on Friday afternoon in New Britain. Senior goalkeeper Erin Herd made one save for her fourth straight shutout and fifth of the season. CCSU outshot the Crusaders15-1 in shots on goal in the victory. They play again on Sunday at #13 Boston College at 1 p.m.

Holy Cross on Friday afternoon in New Britain. Senior goalkeeper

Herd made one save for her fourth straight shutout and fifth of
the season. CCSU outshot the Crusaders15-1 in shots on goal in the
victory. They play again on Sunday at #13 Boston College at 1
p.m.
The game marked the fourth straight shutout for senior keeper Herd
and the Blue Devil defense which played solid allowing only one
shot on goal in the entire 90 minutes. The Crusaders had four
total shots against 28 for the home team.
Holy Cross keeper Jessica Stone made 13 stops in net for the
Crusaders (0-5-0).
The game was scoreless through the first 76 minutes before Blayney
found the net at 76:01 to give the Blue Devils the 1-0 lead.
Blayney took a pass in the box from freshman Jillian
Cipriano, made a strong move to rid herself of the defender and
chipped the ball over the head of Stone for her second goal of the
season.
Caneen beat the clock to score her second goal of the year. Taking
a pass from Brittany
Emin she beat her defender down the left side and made a strong
move on Stone to hit the back of the net. The ball crossed the
goalline just as the horn sounded the end the game giving the Blue
Devils the 2-0 victory.
The shutout was the fourth straight for Central Connecticut, the
second-longest shutout streak in program history. Only a five-game
streak at the end of the 1997 season is longer in the 14-year
history of the program.
Herd and her defense have now allowed only one goal in her 600
minutes played on the season, good for a goals against average of
0.15 and a 3-0-3 record for the senior.
CCSU returns to action on Sunday at #13 Boston College at 1
p.m.
