Central Connecticut controlled the pace for the first eight
minutes of the game and provided the game's first scoring chance.
Junior Leah
Blayney's shot from 30 yards out was just high over the UConn
goal.
Three minutes later it was the Blue Devil defense that came up big
as senior Hannah
Bromley stifled a Husky scoring chance just in front of CCSU
senior keeper Erin
Herd to keep the game scoreless.
The Blue Devils got on the board first when Tregear took a cross
from the left side from junior Rachel
Caneen and beat Connecticut keep Amanda Schwartz to the left
side to take the 1-0 lead 13:56 into the game. It was the first
goal of the season for the Blue Devils and the third in the career
of Tregear.
The lead reached 2-0 for the Blue Devils on a corner kick when
sophomore Brittany
Emin hit Blayney who then found Tregear for her second goal of
the night. The goal came at 28:36 of the first half.
Connecticut wasted little time cutting the Blue Devil lead in half
with its first goal of the game just 1:21 later. Elise Fugowski
beat Herd to the left side to cut the lead to 2-1 at 29:55. The
goal was the first allowed by CCSU this season in 139:55.
With just under eight minutes to play a UConn break-away led to
another scoring chance but Herd came up big with a save to force a
UConn corner. She also made a second save on the resulting corner
kick to keep the lead at one for CCSU.
The Blue Devils led 2-1 at the break but the Huskies held a 3-2
advantage in shots on goal. CCSU had a pair of corner kicks and
converted on one.
Herd made a pair of spectacular saves in the first 10 minutes of
the second half to preserve the lead. Both came against UConn's
Elizabeth Eng from inside of 12 feet. Blayney narrowly missed the
goal at 65:40 on a break-away but her shot went just high.
Herd made another great save with 12 minutes on the clock and 28
seconds later the Blue Devils drove the length of the field and a
shot by freshman Brittany
Jackson went just high and narrowly missed giving CCSU the two
goal lead.
Herd finished the game with six total saves including four in the
second half. UConn outshot the Blue Devils 15-5 in the game and
held a 7-2 advantage in shots on goal.
