Garber Tabbed Corvias ECAC Rookie Of The Week
Maddy Garber picks up another weekly award with another stellar performance from the rookie at the USA Winter Nationals this past weekend.
Freshman Maddy Garber of the Central Connecticut women's swimming and diving team was named this week's Corvias ECAC Rookie of the Week, it was announced Wednesday afternoon. Garber picked up the award after she led the way for the Blue Devils at the 2014 AT&T USA Winter National Championships at the Greensboro Aquatics Center in Greensboro, NC this past weekend.
The rookie swam in two events at the national meet amongst the best swimmers in the United States. She recorded a 38th place finish out of 87 swimmers in the 200 yard breaststroke and a 54th place finish out of 95 swimmers in the 100 yard breaststroke.
Her finish in the 200 breaststroke was the best finish by any Blue Devil on the weekend. She touched the wall with a time of 2:17.34 and the Massachusetts product finished less than two seconds off the pace to qualify for the finals heat. Garber swam to a time of 1:03.54 in the 100 breaststroke to earn her 54th place finish.
The ECAC Rookie of the Week award adds to the list of awards the freshman standout swimmer has earned so early in her career as a Blue Devil. Garber has been named NEC Swimmer of the Week three times and she is the new team and freshman record holder in the 100 and 200 yard breaststroke events. She also is a member of the 400 yard medley relay team that broke the team record this season.
