Garber Named NEC Swimmer of the Week
Garber won two events for the Blue Devils in a dual meet against LIU Post on Saturday.
Freshman Maddy Garber of the Central Connecticut women's swimming and diving team was named NEC Swimmer of the Week, the league announced Tuesday. The Blue Devils opened their 2014-15 season by defeating LIU Post in a dual meet, 141-121 on Saturday.
Garber claimed two of the Blue Devils' seven first place finishes at the meet. The rookie placed first in the 100 and 200 yard breaststroke. She finished the 100 with a time of 1:06.23, the 200 with a time of 2:24.48 and earned 18 points for CCSU.
Garber added another two points to the Blue Devils' total as a member of the 200 yard medley team that finished third in the event. The team swam to a time of 1:51.88.
Garber's 200 breaststroke time is the best time recorded for that event in the NEC to date.
Garber and the Blue Devils will return to action with another dual meet this Saturday at New Hampshire. The meet is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
