Four Blue Devils Compete At Winter Nationals
Four Blue Devils competed at the 2014 AT&T USA Winter Nationals.
Four members of the Central Connecticut women's swimming and diving team competed this weekend in the 2014 AT&T USA Winter National Championships at the Greensboro Aquatics Center in Greensboro, NC. Senior Helene Neuhaus, Sophomores Christine Rasile and Sabree Thomas and freshman Maddy Garber competed in the national event amongst the best swimmers in the United States.
Three-time NEC Swimmer of the Week, Maddy Garber led the way for the Blue Devils at the meet recording a 38th place finish out of 87 swimmers in the 200 yard breaststroke and a 54th place finish out of 95 swimmers in the 100 yard breaststroke. Her finish in the 200 breaststroke was the best finish by any Blue Devil on the weekend. She touched the wall with a time of 2:17.34 and the rookie finished less than two seconds off the pace to qualify for the finals heat.
Garber swam to a time of 1:03.54 in the 100 breaststroke to earn her 54th place finish.
Sophomore Christine Rasile recorded the second-best finish for the Blue Devils in the 100 yard freestyle. Rasile finished in 78th position in the qualifying heat and she touched the wall with a time of 52.41.
Sophomore Sabree Thomas recorded a 95th place finish in the 100 yard butterfly for CCSU. The South Hadley, MA product swam to a time of 57.39 in the qualifying heat.
Senior Helene Neuhaus competed in the 100 yard backstroke and recorded a 115th place finish in the event. The veteran finished the qualifying heat with a time of 58.11.
The CCSU swimming and diving team will return to competitive action after the New Year on Jan. 3, 2015. They will travel to Fort Myers, FL to compete at Florida Gulf Coast in a quad meet with FGCU, Liberty and Campbell.
