Swimming And Diving Falls At New Hampshire
The Blue Devils fell on the road to the University of New Hampshire by a score of 168-124 on Saturday.
The Central Connecticut women's swimming and diving team fell to the University of New Hampshire on Saturday afternoon by a score of 168-124. The dual meet was held at New Hampshire and the Blue Devils are now 1-1 in dual meets this season.
The Blue Devils accumulated ten top-two finishes in 16 events on the day and were led by senior Kaitlyn Dwyer and freshman Maddy Garber.
Garber was the only Blue Devil to earn an individual swimming victory on the day and she did so in the 100 yard breaststroke and the 200 yard IM. Garber won the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:05.56, the 200 IM with a time of 2:13.68 and picked up 18 points for CCSU. Garber tacked on another three points to the Blue Devils' total with a third place finish in the 200 yard breaststroke when she touched the wall at the 2:21.30 mark.
Dwyer led the Blue Devils from the diving board picking up a first place finish on the 1-meter board and a runner-up finish on the 3-meter board. Dwyer scored 238.92 from the 1-meter board, which was more than 63 points better than the second place diver. On the 3-meter Dwyer scored 203.10 to earn the silver medal.
CCSU's divers accounted for 25 of the Blue Devils 124 points in just two events. Central swept the podium in the 1-meter taking all 16 available points. Dwyer finished first followed by freshman Annemarie Durham (175.65) and junior Kaitlyn Beaver (173.02). CCSU finished second through fourth from the 3-meter board to tally nine points. Dwyer earned four points as the runner up, Beaver finished third earning three points on a score of 186.00 and sophomore Rayanne Muzzo finished fourth with a score of 159.60 and picked up two points.
Seniors Karen Novak and Helene Neuhaus both recorded individual runner-up finishes. Novak touched the wall second in the 1000 yard freestyle with a time of 10:45.09. Neuhaus swam the 100 yard backstroke in 59:68 to earn her silver medal.
The Blue Devils will return to action next Friday in another dual meet, on the road, against Bryant. The meet is set to begin at 6 p.m.
