Swim & Dive Defeats LIU Post In Dual Meet
The Blue Devils return to action next Saturday at New Hampshire.
The Central Connecticut swimming and diving team defeated LIU Post in its first scored meet of the season on Saturday, Oct 25 by a score of 141-121. The Blue Devils placed first in seven of the 14 events to claim the victory.
Freshman Maddy Garber led the Blue Devils in the meet claiming two of the seven victories. Garber placed first in the 100 and 200 yard breaststroke. She finished the 100 with a time of 1:06.23 and the 200 with a time of 2:24.48 earning 18 points for the Blue Devils on the day.
Sophomore Christine Rasile also had a very productive meet for the Blue Devils as she was also part of two CCSU victories. She touched the wall first in the 100 yard freestyle and competed as the anchor on the 200 yard medley relay team that recorded a first place finish. In the 100 free Rasile finished with a time of 53.46 and the 200 medley team swam to a time of 1:49.79.
Senior Helene Neuhaus, junior Alaina Papiro and sophomore Sabree Thomas were the first three members of the medley team with Rasile.
The Blue Devils saw a very strong performance out of their freshmen class in their first scored collegiate competition, as they were responsible for four first place finishes. Garber won her two events, Maeve Awiszus won the 1000 yard freestyle and Lauren Czulewicz won the 200 yard freestyle. Awiszus finished the 1000 with a time of 10:54.13 and Czulewicz recorded a time of 1:57.44 in the 200.
Senior Karen Novak accounted for the seventh Blue Devil victory in the meet. Novak won the 500 yard freestyle swimming to a time of 5:19.54.
The Blue Devils will travel to New Hampshire for another dual meet next Saturday, Nov. 1. The meet is scheduled to being at 2 p.m.
