Lax Earns IWLCA Academic Honor
The CCSU lacrosse team earned the Academic Squad award from the IWLCA.
The Central Connecticut lacrosse team was recognized as a 2012 Academic Squad by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association on Monday night. The Blue Devils are among 42 Division I women's lacrosse teams to earn the honor this year.
To qualify for IWLCA Academic Squad honor, a program must maintain a team grade point average above a 3.0 throughout the season.
Head coach Kelly Nangle's squad posted a GPA of 3.08 during the spring semester to earn the honor.
"Receiving this honor is a testament to how hard this group of girls works day-in and day-out," Nangle said. "I am extremely proud of this award and as a program we will continue to raise the bar for academic success."
The Blue Devils had eight student-athletes named to the Northeast Conference Academic Honor Roll following the spring season. In addition, freshman Brigit Hogan was named to the NEC Commissioner's Honor Roll, student-athletes on the commissioner's honor roll must maintain a GPA above 3.75.
On the field, the Blue Devils set program records for NEC victories (5) and home victories (6). Senior goalkeeper Erin DeLancey was named NEC Goalkeeper of the Year and Betsy Vendel earned All-NEC honors. In addition, Nangle was named NEC Coach of the Year in her first season at Central.
