Central Connecticut State University Athletics Director Paul Schlickmann has announced that Kelly Nangle has been named the new head women's lacrosse coach for the Blue Devils. Nangle becomes the fourth head coach in the history of the Blue Devil program. She officially starts in her position on Monday, Aug. 8th.
"We are thrilled to welcome Kelly to the Blue Devil family," Schlickmann said. "She possesses the best of the qualities we were looking for in a head coach; a proven track record as a player, experience coaching at a highly successful program, an impressive vision and a contagious enthusiasm. Her passion for the sport of women's lacrosse was clearly evident from our first conversation. Kelly is an excellent addition to our staff and I am confident she will develop our women's lacrosse program into one of the premier programs in the Northeast Conference."
Nangle has spent the last three seasons as an assistant coach at Rutgers University. She was in charge of the team's defense, as well as serving as the recruiting coordinator for the Scarlet Knights. During that time, Rutgers has maintained a presence in the national rankings.
"I am very thankful for the opportunity to be the head coach of the Blue Devil women's lacrosse program," Nangle said on Monday. "I can't wait to get started. This program has the potential to be one of the best in the NEC and in the region, and I look forward to getting to work. CCSU has a history of successful programs winning NEC titles, it's time to add women's lacrosse to that list."
Nangle joined the Rutgers staff in the fall of 2008. During her three seasons the Scarlet Knights accumulated a 27-21 won-loss record. They were one of the top defensive teams in the Big East during that time, finishing second in the conference in goals-against average in 2011.
Prior to joining the staff at Rutgers, Nangle spent a year as the head lacrosse coach at St. John's Prep in Frederick, Maryland. Before that, she spent a year as an assistant coach at Mount St. Mary's, her alma mater, a member of the NEC.
Nangle was a four-time All-Conference selection for the Mountaineers and is among the programs top-10 all-time in ground balls, caused turnovers, and draw controls. Following her senior season, she was selected to play in the Division I North/South Senior All-Star Game.
She earned a Bachelor of Arts in business from the Mount in 2006.
