Women's Lax Falls at Iona on Sunday
Blue Devils host Manhattan on Wednesday at 5 p.m.
The Central Connecticut women's lacrosse team fell to 1-2 on the season with a 7-3 loss at Iona College on Sunday afternoon. Junior Betsy Vendel scored a pair of goals for the Blue Devils in the loss.
Central will return home for its next game on Wednesday at 5 p.m. vs. Manhattan. They are 1-0 at home this season under first year head coach Kelly Nangle.
The Gaels scored first to take the early lead, but Vendel's third goal of the season knotted the score at 1-1. Iona answered with the final two goals before halftime, taking the 3-1 lead into the break.
In the second half, junior Mackenzy Ryan's free position goal cut the lead in half, 3-2. It was her sixth goal of the season. Iona answered again with three straight goals in less than seven minutes to push the lead to 6-2.
Vendel's second goal of the game, and fourth of the season, made it 6-3 with 15:41 to play in the second period. Iona held a 28-13 advantage in shots in the game.
Senior Erin DeLancey made 11 stops in net for the Blue Devils, and is now 1-2 on the season. Ioan goalkeeper Maria Ortiz made seven saves in net to earn the victory.
