Women's Basketball Stopped By Boston College
Next Up Blue Devils Open Conference Play On January 2nd
The Central Connecticut State women's basketball team closed out the non-conference portion of its schedule and wrapped up play in the 2024 calendar year with an 83-56 loss at Boston College in a Friday matinee. CCSU is now 1-12 overall so far this season, and with the squad's fourth straight win, BC raises its overall season record to 10-4. The host Eagles used the three-point shot as weapon all game long, as BC knocked down 12 trifectas. Boston College also turned 21 CCSU turnovers into 26 points on the day. Graduate student guard Belle Lanpher led the Blue Devils in scoring for the third straight game, as she surpassed the 20-point plateau in back-to-back outings, finishing with a game-high 22 points; 13 of which came in the second half. Lanpher was joined in double figures by freshman Dagny Slomack who finished with a career-high 18 points. Graduate student Meghan Kenefick finished with nine points in the game, just one point shy of giving Central a trio of double-digit scorers. Freshman Selina Monestime led the Blue Devils on the boards pulling down a total of 10 rebounds. Dontavia Waggoner led three Boston College Eagles in double-figure scoring with 17 points. Teya Sidberry led the Eagles with 10 rebounds.

KEY MOMENTS
- Belle Lanpher, playing in her home state of Massachusetts, made two free throws to give the Blue Devils a 2-0 lead to open the game at the 7:05 mark of the first quarter, and she then hit a layup off an assist from Dagny Slomack to move the score to 4-0 in favor of CSSU 3:31 into play on Friday.
- Boston College missed its first seven field attempts in the contest, but the host Eagles would then heat up on offense making 8 of their next 11 attempts to take a 19-12 lead after the first quarter.
- Dagny Slomack led Central with eight points in the opening frame, and Belle Lanpher added four points.
- BC opened the second quarter on a 12-6 run to extend its lead to 31-18 forcing CCSU to call a timeout 4:21 before halftime.
- The hosts outscored the Blue Devils, 20-11, in the second quarter to take a 39-23 lead at halftime. BC forced Central into 10 turnovers in the first half which they converted into 13 points. Dagney Slomack led the visitors with 10 points at the half, and Belle Lanpher chipped in nine points. Selina Monestime led all players in the game with eight first half rebounds.
- The Eagles would extend their advantage to 21 points, 49-28, at the third quarter media timeout which came at the 4:29 mark of the stanza, as BC opened the quarter on a 10-5 run.
- The third quarter was unkind to the visiting Blue Devils, as Boston College outscored CCSU, 23-8, to balloon its advantage to 31 points, 62-31, heading into the fourth quarter.
- CCSU closed out the game with a strong fourth quarter outscoring BC, 25-21, over the last 10 minutes of action to make Friday's final score, 83-56.

NOTES
- With her 22 points on Friday, Belle Lanpher continues to move up the CCSU all-time scoring list, as she now has 1123 points which puts her number 10 on the Blue Devils' career scoring chart. Belle hit 8-of-16 field goals at BC, including making a pair of three-point shots and was a perfect 4-for-4 from the foul line. Lanpher has made 11-of-12 free throws in her three games played so far this season.
- Freshman Dagny Slomack, who played all but one minute of Friday's game making her eighth start of the season, finished with a career-high 18 points at BC. Her previous career best was 16 which came versus the University of Bridgeport the day after Thanksgiving.
- Central and BC both finished with a total of 39 rebounds on Friday. Both teams also finished with 11 second chance points apiece, as the Eagles had a total of 13 offensive rebounds; while CCSU had 12 offensive boards.
- The Blue Devils shared the basketball well versus the Eagles as they finished with 16 assists on 21 made baskets. Those 16 assists are the team's second highest total of the year just behind 18 in Central's win over Bridgeport on November 29. Meghan Kenefick and Dagny Slomack each had four assists at BC.
- With five boards on Friday, graduate student Meghan Kenefick is now just eight rebounds shy of 500 for her career.

- After the Holiday Break, the Blue Devils return home to open play in 2025 with their first Northeast Conference game of the season when Saint Francis (Pa.) comes to Detrick Gymnasium for a 4:00 p.m. tilt on Thursday, January 2. The Saint Francis game will be the first of three consecutive NEC home games for Central to begin the New Year.
