Amaya Williams Leads Central With 15 Points As Blue Devils Fall At Colgate

The host Colgate University Raiders (3-1) defeated the visiting Central Connecticut State University Blue Devils (0-5), 74-60, in a non-conference women's basketball contest in Hamilton, New York on Friday night.  Colgate used a big third quarter in which they outscored the visiting Blue Devils, by nine points, 24-15, to extend a five-point halftime lead, 34-29, to a 14-point advantage, 58-44, after three periods.   With the loss, Central slips to 0-5 overall so far in the 2024-25 season; while the Raiders up their overall season mark to 3-1.   Senior Amaya Williams led a trio of CCSU players in double-digit scoring with 15 points, and she was joined in double figures by freshman Dagny Slomack with 11 points and junior Alonna Sellers with 10 points. Sellers finished one rebound shy of a double-double with nine boards coming off the Blue Devils' bench.

KEY MOMENTS

• The game was tied 16-16 after the opening 10 minutes of action.  CCSU tied things up with one second to play in the quarter on a layup by Kayla Henry.
• The Blue Devils were led in scoring in the first quarter by Amaya Williams with five points and Jessica Farrell had four in the opening stanza.
• Colgate jumped out to a seven-point, 28-21, lead with 5:08 to play in the second quarter and never trailed for the reminder of the contest.
• The Raiders led 34-29 at the half.  Amaya Williams led the Blue Devils with seven points in the first half, and she was followed by Meghan Kenefick with six points.  Alonna Sellers grabbed five rebounds to lead Central in the first 20 minutes.
• The hosts outscored CCSU by nine, 24-15 in the third quarter to head into the final 10 minutes of play up 58-44.
• In the final quarter, Colgate would extend its lead to as many as 16 points on two occasions before the game went final at 74-60.

• Amaya Williams 15 points against Colgate are one point shy of her career best of 16 that came versus Wagner during the 2022-23 season.
• Dagny Slomack has now reached double-digit in scoring in three of the Blue Devils five games so far this season.  On Friday, she knocked down three 3-point shots.
• Alonna Sellers went 5-of-6 from the floor versus Colgate.
• As a team, the Blue Devils shot 39.7 percent for the floor on Friday (23-of-58) and hit 9-of-11 free throws (81.8%).
• The hosts finished with a 36-32 edge in rebounding on Friday.
• Colgate shot 49.2 percent from the floor in the win, as they connected on 31-of-63 shots.
• Anne Bair led four Raiders in double figures with 17 points, as she went a perfect 9-of-9 from the free line.  Teammate Sophia Diehl finished with a double-double of 16 points and a game-high 11 rebounds.
• Both Dagny Slomack and Jessica Farrell play all 40 minutes for the Blue Devils in Friday night's game.
