
Women's Basketball Battles But Falls At UMass, 66-60
Kenefick, Sellers And Monestime Shine On Sunday
The CCSU women's basketball team battled the host Minutewomen of the University of Massachusetts on Sunday, but the Blue Devils came up on the short end of a tight 66-60 contest that was a back-and-forth affair that saw eight lead changes and six ties on the afternoon. With the loss, Central falls to 0-3 overall; while UMass is now 1-2 on the young season. Graduate student Meghan Kenefick led Central in scoring on Sunday with a career-best 17 points. She was joined in double figures by red-shirt freshman Selina Monestime with 15 points and junior Alonna Sellers added 12 points. Sellers also finished with a double-double pulling down a game-high 12 rebounds

- CCSU finished the first quarter with a 16-15 lead, and the Blue Devils headed into the halftime break with a 36-33 advantage.

- Alonna Sellers led the team in scoring in the first half with 10 points, and she also has eight rebounds. Meghan Kenefick netted nine points and Selina Monestime had eight points in the opening two quarters.
- UMass opened the third quarter with a flourish going on a 9-0 run to grab a 42-36 run that was snapped by a Kenefick three-pointer at the 5:25 mark.
- Central would come back to knot the game at 44-44 on a Dagny Slomack three with 4:00 to go in the third, but the Blue Devils were held scoreless for the rest of the period, and UMass would head into the final quarter with a 48-44 lead.
- UMass outscored CCSU, 15-8, in the third quarter.
- In the fourth quarter, another three-pointer by Slomack would tie the game at 53-53 with 6:02 to play, but the Minutewomen would close the contest out on a 13-7 advantage to post the 66-60 victory.
