
Women's Basketball Heads To Fairfield On Wednesday
Blue Devils And Stags Set to Continue In-State Rivalry
The CCSU women's basketball team returns to the hardwood after a five-day break from game action on Wednesday night, when the Blue Devils travel to in-state foe Fairfield University (1-2). Central fell to 0-5 so far this season with a 74-60 road setback against Colgate University on Friday evening. Central's other outings this season have been road losses versus UMass (66-60) and Minnesota (89-48) and home defeats against Manhattan (78-64) and Bryant (59-48).

Fairfield leads the all-time series between the two schools by an 11-2 margin. Last season, the Stags defeated the Blue Devils in New Britain, 78-52. CCSU last victory in the series was an 82-71 triumph on November 16, 1998.
LOOKING BACK AT THE COLGATE GAME…
• The host Raiders of Colgate University Raiders used a big third quarter in which they outscored the visiting Blue Devils, by nine points, 24-15, to extend a five-point halftime lead, 34-29, to a 14-point advantage, 58-44, after three periods on their way to a 74-60 victory.
• Senior Amaya Williams led a trio of CCSU players in double-digit scoring with 15 points, and she was joined in double figures by freshman Dagny Slomack with 11 points and junior Alonna Sellers with 10 points. Sellers finished one rebound shy of a double-double with nine boards coming off the Blue Devils' bench.
• Last Friday's game was tied at 16-16 after the opening quarter when CCSU's Kayla Henry knotted the contest with a layup with one second to play in the first ten minutes of action.
SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION ...
• The Fairfield University Stags are members of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference and enter Wednesday's action with a 1-2 record after a tough, two-point loss at Oklahoma State on Saturday, 64-62. The Stags opened this year with an 81-67 win at Arkansas and followed that with a 62-38 defeat versus the University of Richmond in the team's home opener.
• Sophomore Kaety L'Amoreaux leads the Stags in scoring so far this season averaging 13.3 points per game. She is coming off a 13-point performance at Oklahoma State on Saturday. L'Amoreaux is joined in double figures by classmate Meghan Anderson who is averaging 12.0 ppg.
• Emina Selimovic is Fairfield's leader on the glass so far in 2024-25, as she is grabbing an average of 5.0 rebounds per game
• Another Stag to watch is graduate student Janelle Brown. Brown, a guard, was named last season's MAAC Player of the Year, and she received the same recognition preseason this year.
• As a team, Fairfield is averaging 60.7 points and 33.7 rebounds per outing, and they are allowing the opposition 64.3 points per game plus opponents are pulling down an average of 34.0 rebounds per game.
• The Stags are led by head coach Carly Thibault-DuDonis, who is in her third season on the Fairfield bench. Last season, her team posted an impressive 31-2 overall record winning both the MAAC regular season and conference championship tournament crowns. Fairfield fell to Indiana in the opening round of last year's NCAA Tournament. Thibault-DuDonis earned both MAAC Coach of the Year and Kay Yow National Coach of the Year accolades for the 2023-24 season.

• CCSU's number two ranking in the Preseason Northeast Conference Coaches' Poll is the highest ranking in program history.
• Graduate student Meghan Kenefick leads the team in scoring and is second on the squad in rebounding averaging 12.0 points and 5.4 boards per game. Meghan also is tied the Blue Devils' lead in total assists with Amaya Williams at 11 through five outings.
• Freshman Selina Monestime is next in scoring averaging 9.6 points per game, and she is grabbing an average of 4.2 rebounds per game.
• Junior Alonna Sellers leads CCSU on the glass so far in 2024-25 averaging 8.0 rebounds per game. Sellers is averaging just shy of double-digit scoring at 9.2 ppg. She went 5-of-6 from the floor versus Colgate.
• Freshman Dagny Slomack is averaging 9.0 points per game, as she has hit double digits in three games so far this season.
• Amaya Williams' 15 points against Colgate were just one point shy of tying her career high of 16 that came versus Wagner during the 2022-23 campaign.
• As a team, the Blue Devils are averaging 56.0 points per game and allowing the opposition to score an average of 73.2 points per game. On the boards, Central is pulling down an average of 33.4 rebounds per game; while the opposition is averaging 36.4 rebounds per contest.

• Central returns to Detrick Gymnasium for a two-game Thanksgiving week homestand that begins on Tuesday, November 26 when the Blue Devils host Siena in a 4:00 p.m. tilt. Following the Siena game, the University of Bridgeport comes to New Britain for a game at 12 noon on Black Friday, November 29. Fairfield hits the road after Wednesday's game heading to Charleston Southern on Monday, November 25 for a 6:00 p.m. contest.
