Women's Basketball Kicks Off League Play at Home Against Wagner Thursday Night
The Central Connecticut women's basketball team opens its 2016-17 Northeast Conference slate Thursday night at 7:00 p.m. against Wagner at home.
The Central Connecticut women's basketball team host the Wagner Seahawks in its Northeast Conference home opener. The game is set to begin at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday nightinside the Blue Devils' Detrick Gymnasium. Previously for both teams, the Blue Devils were set back at New Hampshire, 52-56, on Dec. 21.Wagner is coming off of a, 44-107, loss at Princeton.

Series History (24-15) • Thursday's match marks the 40th anniversary between the two squads. Central holds a nine game advantage in the series over the Seahawks. Last season the teams split both meetings in conference play, 1-1, with Wagner last prevailing on the road at Central on Feb. 20, 64-63. CCSU stole a victory when they visited the Seahawks on Jan. 16, 62-52.
Last Timeout • The Central Connecticut women's basketball team came up short in its final game of the non-conference at New Hampshire. Three Blue Devils scored in double-figures, including a double-double from senior Giocelis Reysnoso, with 13 rebounds and 10 points. Sophomore Kiana Patterson had 14 points, and fellow classmate Andi Lydon notes 13 points and nine rebounds for CCSU.
Scouting the Seahawks • As a team, Wagner is shooting 30.9% from the field and 26.3% from three-point territory. WC is getting out-rebounded by its opponent by an average margin of 10.0 rpg. Tanasia Russell leads the team in scoring with 11.9 ppg, and assists with 20 on the year. Africa Williams and Kerstie Phills are netting 9.0 and 8.2 points per game, respectively.
Last Meeting • Wagner's Jasmine Nwajei drove and made a layup with 1.7 seconds left to upset the Central Connecticut women's basketball team, 64-63. The Blue Devils led 30-28 at the half but shot just 12-of-34 from the field before the break, just 35.3 percent. Central out-rebounded the Seahawks 51-40 in the game and held Wagner to 33.8 percent shooting (22-of-65). The Blue Devils shot 35.9 percent (23-of-64) and hit just 5-of-24 from three.

Senior Giocelis Reynoso's 9.0 rebounds per contest is second best in the league, and her 3.55 offensive rebounds per game is a league best. Freshman Cebria Outlow's 84.6% from the free throw line,and 37.0% three-point field goal percentage, places her at fourth place in both categories in the NEC individual statistics. Kiana Patterson is tied for second in three-pointers made per game with 2.18.
