Women's Basketball Wins Fourth Straight, Remains Unbeaten in NEC Play
Blue Devils host FDU on Saturday at 1 p.m.
The Central Connecticut women's basketball team won its fourth straight game and improved to 5-10 overall and 4-0 in Northeast Conference play with a 68-58 victory at home over Mount St. Mary's on Monday night.
The Mount is now 3-12 overall and 1-3 in NEC play with the loss. The Blue Devils will play again at home on Saturday hosting Fairleigh Dickinson at 1 p.m. in Detrick Gym.
Central took a 37-28 halftime lead and led by as many as nine in the first two quarters. They hit 5-of-10 from three including a pair from sophomore Sydney Hines. The Blue Devils held Mount to 12-of-28 from the field (42.9%) and outrebounded the visitors 22-16 before the break.
Senior Giocelis Reynoso had six points and seven boards, including four on the offensive end of the floor. They produced 10 second chance points while also grabbing six steals, leading to 11 points.
The Mount cut the lead to three quickly in the second half by scoring the first six points of the third quarter in just over two minutes. Central responded and built the lead back to seven, 50-43, but the Mount scored the final points of the quarter and the Blue Devils held a 50-45 lead at the end of the third quarter.
The Mount made 4-of-10 shots in the quarter but just one of their final six shots, but the were 2-of-4 from three while cutting the lead to five.
The Blue Devils opened the fourth quarter and built the lead back to 11, 58-47, with 6:30 left to play on the heels of a pair of buckets from senior Aleah Epps and the third three of the game from sophomore Kiana Patterson.
The Mount climbed to within seven, but a jumper from sophomore Andi Lydon pushed the lead back to nine, 63-54, with under three minutes to play in the game.
Patterson led the Blue Devils with 20 points, including 3-of-3 from three on the night. Lydon had 17 points and eight rebounds. Hines added 10 points. Reynoso led the team with 10 rebounds. The Blue Devils outrebounded the Mount 45-32 in the win.
The Blue Devils return to action on Saturday, hosting Fairleigh Dickinson at 1 p.m. in New Britain.
