Blue Devils Win Fifth Straight, Topple FDU at Home on Saturday
CCSU travels to LIU Brooklyn on Monday afternoon at 2 p.m.
The Central Connecticut women's basketball team won its fifth straight game and remained unbeaten in Northeast Conference play (5-0) with a 68-49 home victory over Fairleigh Dickinson on Saturday afternoon.
The Blue Devils were led by sophomore Andi Lydon who had 18 points and 11 rebounds for her second double-double of the season. Senior Giocelis Reynoso finished with 13 points and nine rebounds for CCSU.
Central is now 6-10 overall on the season. FDU falls to 3-13 overall and 1-4 in league play with the loss.
Central trailed 5-2 early but a 15-0 run by the Blue Devils built a 17-5 lead late in the first quarter. They held a 21-10 lead at the end of the first period.
Central built a 38-19 halftime lead after holding the Knights to just two points (one a pair of free throws) in the final 7:01 before the break.
Lydon led all scorers with 15 points on 6-of-8 shooting and a pair of three pointers as the Blue Devils were 17-of-38 from the field and made four threes.
The Knights were also 4-of-10 from three but made only 2-of-17 inside the arc as they shot just 6-of-27 from the field. Central held a 29-16 edge in rebounds, led by seven from Lydon.
FDU opened the second half on a 13-4 run and cut the Blue Devil lead to 42-32 five minutes into the period. Central answered and built the lead back to 48-32 with six straight points in a quick two minute span.
The Blue Devils led 48-35 at the end of the third quarter and ran away from the Knights in the fourth quarter to claim their fifth straight win.
Sophomore Kiena Patterson added 12 points for the Blue Devils in the win. The Blue Devils outrebounded the Knights 60-32 in the game. They also forced 17 FDU turnovers in the victory.
The Blue Devils are back in action on Monday afternoon at 2 p.m. at LIU Brooklyn.
