Robert Morris Stops Women's Basketball Saturday
Saint Francis U. will visit Central Connecticut on Monday at 2:00 p.m.
The Robert Morris Colonials won their ninth straight game with a 62-39 victory over Central Connecticut on Saturday, inside Detrick Gymnasium in New Britain, CT. Senior Aleah Epps led the Blue Devils with eight points, and added four rebounds. Robert Morris collected 36 of its 62 points in the paint, and shot 51.1% (24-of-47) from the floor.
Monday's game against Saint Francis U. has been moved to 2:00 p.m. All fans will receive FREE ADMISSION in recognition of the President's Day holiday. Women's basketball will hold its Senior Day ceremony on Monday, Feb. 27 prior to the game against St. Francis Brooklyn scheduled at 7:00 p.m.
CCSU heads into Monday's contest with Saint Francis U. with a record of (9-17, 8-7 NEC), and Robert Morris remains in first at (12-3) in the NEC and (17-9) overall.
Robert Morris jumped out to an 11-0 run until senior Aleah Epps drove in for the Blue Devils' first points of the game at the 5:50 mark. Sophomore Kiana Patterson connected on a three-pointer off a pass from senior Chayla Lewis at first quarter buzzer.
RMU led 22-12 through the first ten minutes and the Blue Devils went 5-for-6 from the foul line.
Eight Colonials scored, and contributed to a 60.7% (17-of-28) first half shooting performance. Central Connecticut was held to 4-of-27 (14.8%) shooting, and Robert Morris held a slight advantage on the boards, 19-16 at two quarters.
Central continued to struggle from the field in the third. Sophomore Sydney Hines and freshman Taylor Goode came off the bench to combine for seven points to lead the Blue Devils in the quarter.
Early in the final period, Epps completed an "old-fashioned" three point play, and then found senior Giocelis Reynoso for a lay up as the shot clock expired with 6:11 left in the game. The Blue Devil rendered their best quarter of the game, out-scoring the Colonials 15-to-13, and shooting 46.2% (6-for-13) from the field.
Nneka Ezeigbo led RMU with 12 points, and Mikalah Mulrain finished with 10 points and nine rebounds. Reynoso grabbed eight rebounds and chipped in six points for CCSU.
