Women's Basketball Drops Home Opener 68-58 to Hartford on Wednesday
Andi Lydon had 14 points and 15 rebounds in the loss
Sophomore Andi Lydon had a season-high 14 points and career-high 15 rebounds but the Central Connecticut women's basketball team dropped a 68-58 home decision to Hartford on Wednesday night. The Blue Devils fall to 0-2 on the season while Hartford is now 2-1.
Senior Aleah Epps led the Blue Devils offense with 18 points (8-of-8 from the line) and grabbed eight rebounds while dishing three assists.
Lydon led the Blue Devils with her 14 points. Her 15 rebounds led all players in the game, as the Blue Devils outrebounded the Hawks 49-36 in the game. Senior Giocelis Reynoso scored nine points and also grabbed a career-high with 13 rebounds in the game. Central shot just 18-of-61 from the field, 29.5 percent, and hit 4-of-19 from three.
The Hawks were just 25-of-65 from the floor (38.5 percent) and hit on just 4-of-16 from behind the arc.
The Blue Devils led 56-50 with 8:18 left in the fourth quarter, but would manage just two points in the final minutes. Hartford used an 18-2 run in the final minutes to claim their second victory of the season. The Blue Devils had just five points in the fourth quarter and shot 2-of-14 from the field.
Central had 18 turnovers in the game that led to 17 Hartford points. Hartford turned the ball over only eight times in the game.
Reynoso added a game-high four blocks. Both teams shot well from the free-throw line. Central hit 18-of-20 while the Hawks hit 14-of-17.
The Blue Devils are back at it on Friday night hosting Vermont beginning at 7 p.m. in Detrick Gym.
