The Central Connecticut women's basketball team (1-6) visits the No. 5 ranked Maryland Terrapins (7-0) on Saturday inside the XFINITY Center in College Park, MD. The Blue Devils will look to end a five game slide Saturday against the Terrapins as CCSU wraps up a tough stretch to open the season, playing six road games over their first eight games. Previously For Both Teams • The Blue Devils are coming off a tough 49-41 road setback to intrastate rival Hartford on Wednesday night, while the Terrapins are coming off an 82-64 victory over No. 20/25 ranked Syracuse at home on Wednesday.
Series History (0-1) • Today's game marks the second meeting all-time between the Blue Devils and Terrapins at the Division I level with the only other meeting dating back to the 2005-06 season. Maryland won that contest, 94-57, in a year that saw the Blue Devils go just 9-20 under former head coach Yvette Harris.
Last Time Out • The Blue Devils suffered a 49-41 setback on the road to the Hartford Hawks on Wednesday. The Blue Devils were limited to 32.1.8% (18-56) shooting form the floor, including 27.8% (5-18) from beyond the arc, while Hartford hit for 38.3.% (18-47) from the field and 28.6% (4-14) from three. Sophomore Camden Musgrave led the way for the Blue Devils once again with a team-high 14 points. Junior Aleah Epps facilitated the offense for CCSU dishing out a season-high seven assists and also collected a career-high nine rebounds in the game.
Facing the Elite • Today's contest against No. 5 Maryland marks the highest ranked opponent the Blue Devils have ever faced in the Division I history of the program. The last ranked opponent the Blue Devils met with was #21 Syracuse last season at the Carrier Dome. CCSU dropped that contest 74-43. Prior to that, CCSU met with #15/21 Texas during the 2012-13 season.
Scouting the Terrapins • The Terrapins enter today's game with a 7-0 record. They score 87.6 ppg on average and are led by Shatori Walker-Kimbrough who averages 18.4 ppg. They also have three other players who average in double-figures: Brionna Jones (15.6), Brene Moseley (14.3), and Kiah Gillespie (10.9). Jones also controlls the glass for the Terrapins, pulling down a team-high 9..6 rpg. Walker-Kimbrough is UM's playmaker though, to go along with scoring she has 27 assists, 16 steals, 13 blocks, shoots 56.8% from the field, 53.8% from three and averages 6.7 rebounds per game.
Three-Straight Against AE • Wednesday's duel with Hartford marked the third-straight game for the Blue Devils against an America East opponent. CCSU dropped all three games as part of their current five game slide after falling 49-41 to Hartford on the road.
CCSU vs. America East • Wednesday's game also marked the fifth game this season against an AE opponent in the first seven games of the season for the Blue Devils. CCSU ends 1-4 against the AE this season. They opened the 2015-16 campaign with a 79-63 loss at Vermont, but followed it up with 64-53 win over UMass Lowell before dropping their last three to UNH, Maine and UHart.
Road Rage • The Blue Devils open the 2015-16 season playing six of their first eight games on the road. Last Tuesday's game at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor, ME ended a tough three-game road swing for the Blue Devils and marked the fourth road contest in five games to start the year. Central is currently 0-5 on the road heading into tonight's game at Maryland, but will return home next for a game against Massachusetts.
