WBB Heads To Army Thursday Night For Non-Conference Tilt
The Blue Devils travel to West Point, NY Thursday night to take on the Army Black Knights in their third non-conference game this season.
The CCSU women's basketball team (1-1) will head to West Point, NY to take on the undefeated Army Black Knights (2-0) on Thursday night in the Blue Devils third non-conference game of the season. Tip-off is slated for 5 p.m. inside Christl Arena and tickets can be purchased here or at the box office upon entry. All of the action will also be avaliable live, for free, on the Patriot League Network.

Thursday • The Central Connecticut women's basketball team (1-1) travels to West Point, NY to take on the undefeated (2-0) Army Black Knights inside Christl Arena. The Blue Devils are coming off a 64-53 win in their home opener against UMass Lowell on Tuesday night, while the Black Knights notched back-to-back home wins against Pepperdine (63-53) on Friday and Quinnipiac (67-57) on Sunday. Tip-off for the contest is slated for 5 p.m.
Series History (0-6) • Thursday's game marks the seventh meeting between these two programs at the Division I level with the Black Knights earning victories in each of the last six contests. The two squads last met a season ago in New Britian and Army walked away with a 74-60 victory. Head Coach Beryl Piper is 0-2 against Army in her tenure with the only other meeting other than last year's coming in the 2007-08 season, Piper's first as the HC of the Blue Devils.
Last Season's Meeting • CCSU dropped a 74-60 decision to Army on Dec. 13 in Detrick Gym. The Black Knights had three players in double-figures led by Jean Parker with 25. She was joined by Kelsey Minato (17) and Olivia Schretzman (15). Camden Musgrave paced the Blue Devils with 16 points, connecting on three-of-five attempts from beyond the arc. Aleah Epps also chipped in with 12. CCSU was out-rebounded 31-23 in the game and Army shot 56.3% (27-48) from the floor in the win.
Home Openers • With the 64-53 victory over UMass Lowell on Tuesday, the Blue Devils are now 6-3 over the past nine seasons in home openers under the direction of Beryl Piper. They have also won five of their last six home openers in Detrick Gymnasium dating back to the 2010-11 season.
Last Time Out • Central defeated UML 64-53. Junior point guard Aleah Epps led all scorers with 15 on five-of-11 shooting from the floor. As a team, CCSU shot 45.8% (22-48) and out-rebounded UML 41-35. They also had 11 steals in the game led by four from senior Kayla Miller.
Miller and Malone • Seniors Kayla Miller and TeJahne Malone each recorded double-doubles in CCSU's victory on Tuesday night over UML. They each matched each others totals with 13 points and 10 rebounds a piece. The duo share the honor for recording the first double-double of the 2015-16 season by a Blue Devil.
Considine Start • With sophomore guard Camden Musgrave out with a concussion last game, fellow classmate Caitland Considine stepped in and made her first career start as a Blue Devil on Tuesday night. She filled in playing a career-high 33 minites and logged seven points with an impressive five assists, both career-high marks.
2015-16 Roster • The Blue Devils' roster will feature 10 returning players for the 2015-16 season. All 10 saw game action during the 2014-15 campaign. The squad will also feature four new faces as head coach Beryl Piper and the Blue Devils welcome four freshmen. The 14 player roster will feature three seniors, three juniors, four sophomores, and four true freshmen.
Piper Tops The List • Beryl Piper begins her ninth season as the head coach of the CCSU women's basketball program as the winningest Division I coach in the history of the program. Piper's 113 wins are tops during CCSU's Division I era, as is her .467 career winning percentage.
Double-Digit Victories • With 19 wins last season CCSU has posted double-digit wins in seven straight seasons for the first time in program history. The 2012-13 team's 16 wins gave the Blue Devils five straight double-digit win seasons for the first time in the Division I era. The program also had a five-year run at the Division II level between 1975 and 1980.

2015-16 NEC Preseason Poll Cont. • Central Connecticut received one first place vote and was picked to finish third in the NEC by a vote of the conference's head coaches. The third place prediction matches the highest ranking for Blue Devils ever in the NEC Preseason Coaches' Poll, as CCSU was also slotted third in the 2009-10 poll. The first place nod, however, is the first for Central since joining the league.
Captain Malone • Prior to the Blue Devils first game, head coach Beryl Piper announced that senior TeJahne Malone will represent the Blue Devils as captain this season.
