
Women's Basketball Travels To Maine For Thanksgiving Eve Bout
The CCSU women's basketball team heads to Bangor, ME to take on the Maine Black Bears on Wednesday afternoon at 12 p.m.
The Central Connecticut women's basketball team (1-3) heads to Bangor, ME Wednesday for a Thanksgiving Eve matchup against the Maine Black Bears (2-2) inside the Cross Insurance Center. The game is the Black Bears' home opener and it also marks the tail end of a three-game road swing for the Blue Devils over the past seven days. Central will next return home for a contest against New Hampshire on Sunday, Nov. 29. Tip-off for Wednesday's game is scheduled for 12 p.m.

Wednesday • The Central Connecticut women's basketball team (1-3) travels to Bangor, ME to take on the Maine Black Bears (2-2) inside the Cross Insurance Center for a Thanksgiving Eve matchup. The Blue Devils are coming off a tough, 73-47, setback at Penn St. on Sunday afternoon, while the Black Bears are coming off an impressive, 82-51, victory at North Dakota St. The Blue Devils are yet to win on the road this season (0-3) and they head into Bangor for the Black Bears home opener. Tip-off for Wednesday's contest is scheduled for 12 p.m.
Series History (3-10) • Wednesday's game marks the 14th meeting all-time between the Blue Devils and Black Bears at the Division I level. Maine holds a commanding 10-3 advantage over Central in the series, including a 72-58 victory over the Blue Devils last season in New Britain. However, CCSU holds a 3-2 edge over the Black Bears spanning the past eight season's while Central has been under the direction of head coach Beryl Piper.
Last Time Out • The Blue Devils suffered a 73-47 setback to Penn St. on the road last Sunday. The Blue Devils were limited to 28.3% (17-60) shooting form the floor, including 31.8% (7-22) from beyond the arc, while PSU hit for 53.1% (26-49) from the field and 50.0% (5-10) from three. The Lady Lion's inside presence over matched the Blue Devils as PSU out-scored CCSU 34-14 in the paint and out-rebounded them 40-27. Junior Aleah Epps led the way for CCSU with 12 points, it marks her third-straight game in double-figures. CCSU's defense did force an impressive 24 turnovers, however.
Last Season's Meeting • The Black Bears traveled to New Britain on Dec. 3 and defeated the Blue Devils, 72-58. Liz Wood and Sigi Koizar both dropped 20+ points to pace the Black Bears. Wood finshed with 23 and Koizar had 21. Camden Musgrave and Nicole Feguson led Central with 15 points and 11 points respectively. Maine hit 12-of-22 attempts from beyond the arc last year as the difference maker in the contest, led by Sophie Weckstrom who was five-of-seven from long range.
More Series History • The Blue Devils and Black Bears have met once before in a similar situation. Central faced Maine back in 2009 for the Black Bears home opener. Maine defeated CCSU 61-58 in that game on Nov. 13.
Three-Straight For Epps • Junior point guard Aleah Epps has scored in double-figures in the past three-straight games for CCSU. She tied her career-high vs. UMass Lowell with 15 last Tuesday and followed it up with 11 at Army on Thursday and 12 at Penn St. on Sunday.
Road Rage • Today's game at the Cross Insurance Center marks the third-straight road game for the Blue Devils and the fourth overall this season. Central is 0-3 on the road and will return home next with a game vs. New Hampshire on Nov. 29.
Home Openers • With a 64-53 victory over UMass Lowell on Tuesday, the Blue Devils move to 6-3 over the past nine seasons in home openers under the direction of Beryl Piper. They have also won five of their last six home openers in Detrick Gymnasium dating back to the 2010-11 season.
Miller and Malone • Seniors Kayla Miller and TeJahne Malone each recorded double-doubles in CCSU's victory on Tuesday night over UML. They each matched each others totals with 13 points and 10 rebounds a piece. The duo share the honor for recording the first double-double of the 2015-16 season by a Blue Devil.
2015-16 Roster • The Blue Devils' roster will feature 10 returning players for the 2015-16 season. All 10 saw game action during the 2014-15 campaign. The squad will also feature four new faces as head coach Beryl Piper and the Blue Devils welcome four freshmen. The 14 player roster will feature three seniors, three juniors, four sophomores, and four true freshmen.
Piper Tops The List • Beryl Piper begins her ninth season as the head coach of the CCSU women's basketball program as the winningest Division I coach in the history of the program. Piper's 113 wins are tops during CCSU's Division I era, as is her .463 career winning percentage.
