
Women's Basketball Heads to Wagner Saturday
The CCSU women's basketball team travels to Staten Island, NY to take on the Wagner Seahawks on Saturday at 1 p.m.
The Central Connecticut women's basketball team (4-11, 1-3 NEC) looks to pick up its second-straight NEC road win as the Blue Devils head down to Staten Island, NY to take on the Wagner Seahawks (2-13, 0-4 NEC) on Saturday. Tip-off between the Blue Devils and Seahawks is scheduled for 1 p.m. inside the Spiro Center as part of a NEC double-header with the CCSU and Wagner men's basketball teams to follow at 4 p.m. Both games can be seen live, for free, on NECFrontRow.com.

Today • The Central Connecticut women's basketball team (4-11, 1-3 NEC) completes a three game NEC road swing as they travel to Staten Island, NY to take on the Wagner Seahawks (2-13, 0-4 NEC). Tip-off between the Blue Devils and Seahwaks inside the Spiro Center is scheduled for 1 p.m. Both the Blue Devils and Seahawks men's teams will follow in a Saturday NEC double-header. Previously For Both Teams • The Blue Devils are coming off a 78-75 victory at Fairleigh Dickinson last Monday night to pickup their first conference win of the season. Central tied their season high scoring 78 points in the win led by senior TeJahne Malone who finished with a career-high 25. She also pulled down 12 rebounds to record her second double-double of the season. The Seahawks last played at Sacred Heart falling to the Pioneers, 73-62, on Monday. NEC leading scorer, Jasmine Nwajei (24.5 ppg), paced the Seahawks with 39 points on 14-of-33 shooting from the floor.
Series History (23-14) • Today's game marks the 38th meeting all-time between the two teams at the Division I level. Central holds a 23-14 lead in the series sweeping a pair of games over the Seahawks last season. They won, 77-61, on Jan. 24 at home before completeing the season sweep with an 83-67 victory a week later on Jan. 31 in Staten Island. The Blue Devils have had a lot of success inside the Spiro Center winning the last seven straight games at Wagner.
Piper vs. Wagner • Head Coach Beryl Piper is 12-2 (.857) all-time against Wagner entering her ninth season at the helm of the Blue Devils and is a perfect 7-0 against the Seahwaks inside the Spiro Center. The 12 wins against Wagner is tied for the most for Piper against any NEC opponent (FDU - 12) and her .857 winning percentage is her best against any league foe.
Road Blues • The Blue Devils are 1-9 on the road this season. Last Monday's win at Fairleigh Dickinson marked the first road win of the season for CCSU.
Scouting Wagner • The Seahawks are 2-13 overall, 0-4 in the NEC and sport a 2-3 mark at home this season. They average 57.2 ppg as a team and are led by the NEC's leading scoring, Jasmine Nwajei, who averages 24.5 ppg. Nwajei shoots 36.3% from the floor hitting 134-of-369 attempts, including 25.8% (31-120) from beyond the arc. The Blue Devils will try and keep Nwajei under her average while also trying to keep Sofia Roma off the boards. Roma leads the Seahawks in rebounding grabbing 9.3 rpg.

Career Night for Malone • Senior TeJahne Malone powered the Blue Devils over the Fairleigh Dickinson Knights last Monday night, 78-75, sinking a carer-high 25 points and logged her second double-double of the season with 12 rebounds. Malone also recorded a career-high with five assists and tied her career-high of five steals in the victory. She was 8-of-11 shooting from the floor, 1-of-1 from three and hit 8-of-10 free throw attempts in the game.
Career Watch • With 12 rebounds last game at FDU, Malone surpassed 100 rebounds for the season and now has 101. She is also just nine rebounds away from grabbing 500 for her career as a Blue Devil. She is also two steals away from 100 career steals.
100 for Miller • Monday night's game at Fairleigh Dickinson marked the 100th career game played in by senior Kayla Miller. It also marked her 50th career start as a Blue Devil. She leads the team with 58 career blocks.
