Previously For Both Teams • The Blue Devils are coming off a tough 86-43 setback on the road to the #5 ranked Maryland Terrapins last Saturday afternoon, while the Minutewomen are coming off a tight 57-56 victory over Hofstra at home on Wednesday.
Series History (2-4) • Today's game marks the seventh meeting all-time between the Blue Devils and Minutewomen at the Division I level. UMass holds a slight 4-2 advantage in the series, but CCSU has won the past two meetings which came in the 2011-12 and 2012-13 seasons. Central topped UMass 58-55 in 2011 and then took them down again 78-69 the following year in 2012. Head Coach Beryl Piper is a perfect 2-0 against UMass while at the helm of CCSU women's basketball.
Last Time Out • The Blue Devils suffered a 86-43 setback on the road to the #5 ranked Maryland Terrapins last Saturday. The Blue Devils were limited to 30.2% (16-53) shooting from the floor, including 26.7% (4-15) from beyond the arc, while Maryland hit for 56.9% (37-65) from the field and 30.0% (3-10) from three. Sophomore Emma Stroyan led the way for the Blue Devils with nine points and senior TeJahne Malone pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds for CCSU in the loss.
Scouting UMass • The Minutewomen enter today's game with a 3-4 record. They score 63.9 ppg on average as a team and they are led by Bria Stallworth who averages 13.0 ppg. They also have two other players who average in double-figures: Cierra Dillard (10.9) and Alyssa Lawrence (10.4). Rashida Timbilla controlls the glass for UMass, pulling down a team-high 9.1 rpg. Stallworth and Dillard both try to do damage from beyond the arc as they both have 20+ three point attempts on the season. Stallworth has hit for 39.1% (9-23) and Dillard has hit for 29.6% (8-27) from distance so far this season.
Up Next For CCSU • Central will travel to Fordham for a rematch with the Rams who edged CCSU last season 70-67 in the first round of the WNIT. The Blue Devils and Rams will tip-off at 2 p.m. inside Rose Hill Gym this season on Dec. 20.
