Softball Drops Doubleheader at Home to Fairfield
Central Connecticut dropped a doubleheader to Fairfield University on Thursday to fall to 7-12 on the season. Fairfield improves to 11-11 on the season with the sweep. Freshman Kelsey Barlow homered for the Blue Devils in the bottom of the third inning to drive in three runs. Central will begin Northeast Conference play this weekend, hosting Wagner and Mount St. Mary's for a pair of doubleheaders.

In game one the Stags got on the score board first when senior Dani Griswold doubled to left centerfield to score senior Kristina Lingo, who drew a walk to lead off the inning. Griswold later scored on a wild pitch.
Central answered in the bottom of the first with a run when sophomore Rebecca Mussatti reached after being hit by a pitch and then scored on junior Kathrine Knowles' fielder's choice.
The Blue Devils tied the game in the bottom of the third inning, scoring runs on senior Jaclyn Logan's RBI single. Mussatti scored on the play after reaching base on a walk. Central tied the game again, at 5-5, on Barlow's three run home run. Logan and Knowles recorded runs scored on the homer.
The Blue Devils took the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning on Knowles' double to left center which scored freshman Sarah Emery. Emery pinch ran for Logan after drawing a walk. The Blue Devils could not maintain the lead, allowing the Stags to score nine runs in the top of the sixth inning and finishing the first game with 20 runs on 21 hits and no errors. Central finished the first game with nine runs on 12 hits and three errors.
In game two the Stags led off the scoring with three runs in the top of the first inning. Central Connecticut answered again in the bottom of the first on senior Tiffany Erickson's RBI single, that scored Logan who reached on a single up the middle. The Blue Devils were led by senior Sara Budrick, who was 3-4 in game two. She recorded a double down the left field line to lead off the bottom of the third inning. Central finished game two with four runs on eight hits and three errors. Fairfield tallied six runs on seven hits and no errors.
Central Connecticut Softball will begin conference play this weekend hosting Wagner on Saturday, March 27 for a doubleheader beginning at 1:00 pm. Northeast Conference action will continue against Mount St. Mary's when the Mountaineers come to New Britain for a doubleheader Sunday, March 28 at 12:00 pm.
