Central Connecticut softball improves to 7-8 after splitting a
doubleheader on the road with Atlantic 10 opponent La Salle on
Saturday. The Blue Devils were led by junior Katherine
Knowles who was 4-7 on the afternoon. La Salle Improves to 4-6
on the season after taking the first game by a score of 2-1 and
dropping the second game of the doubleheader 6-5. Central
Connecticut has concluded its weekend trip to Philadelphia, PA with
a 3-1 record after sweeping a doubleheader yesterday against
Temple. The Blue Devils will return to action Tuesday, March 23
against Seton Hall.
In game one the Blue Devils scored one run in the top of the
sixth inning on a home run by Knowles. The 1-0 lead was not enough
to top the Explorers. La Salle took advantage of three walks and a
double by junior Ali Shepherd in the bottom of the seventh inning
for the walk off 2-1 victory in game one. Central finished game
one with one run on four hits and no errors, while La Salle
finished with two runs on six hits and no errors.
In game two the Blue Devils were the first to score when
sophomore Rebecca
Mussatti doubled to right center to lead off the game. She
later scored on an RBI double to right field by senior Jaclyn
Logan. Central was led by a solid offensive performances from
Logan, who recorded two hits including a double and a home run in
four at bats. Knowles and Mussatti were each two for four in the
game to help the CCSU cause.
Junior Elizabeth Montemurro came on
in the seventh inning to get her first save of the season in relief
of sophomore pitcher Abby Harpp. The latter
improved to 5-3 on the season with the victory. Central finished
game two with six runs on 10 hits and two errors, while La Salle
finished with five runs on seven hits and no errors.
Central Connecticut will return to action Tuesday, March 23
for a doubleheader at 3:30 pm, when they will play the Pirates of
Seton Hall in South Orange, NJ. They will continue on the road
Wednesday, March 24 in Chestnut Hill, MA taking on the Eagles of
Boston College.
