Men's Basketball Falls at St. Francis Brooklyn; Kohl Surpasses 1,000 Career Points

The Central Connecticut men's basketball team fell at St. Francis Brooklyn, 90-79, on Saturday in Brooklyn, NY. Senior Tyler Kohl posted a double-double with 26 points and 10 rebounds and surpassed 1,000 career points in the loss. Kohl became the 38th player in program history to surpass 1,000 career points.
Central slips to 11-16 overall and 5-9 in Northeast Conference play.
Kohl paced four Blue Devils in double-figures. Junior Jamir Coleman added 17 points, while junior Joe Hugley had 16 points. Freshman Ian Krishnan finished with 11 points, while senior Deion Bute narrowly missed a double-double with nine points and 11 rebounds.
CCSU shot 24-of-60 (.400) from the field and was 7-of-18 (.389) from three-point range. The Blue Devils maded 24-of-25 (.960) at the foul line.

St. Francis scored the first seven points of the game, while the Blue Devils opened the game 1-for-8. The Terriers quickly built a double-digit lead after Yaya Evans hit a driving layup to make it 12-2.
Central would roll off five straight points to cut the deficit in half. Senior Tyler Kohl hit a jumper and freshman Ian Krishnan followed with a three-pointer to make it 12-7.
The Blue Devils would extend the run to 10-2 and get within a possession. Senior Deion Bute had a put back and Kohl followed with a three-pointer to make it 14-12 midway through the opening half.
Central would score six unanswered to take its only lead of the game late in the first half. Kohl and Hugley would convert back-to-back baskets to get CCSU within a point. Junior Jamir Coleman hit a pair of foul shots to make it 26-25 with 1:57 to go in the half.
The Terriers got back-to-back three-pointers from Stevan Krtinic and Glenn Sanabria to close the half and take a 32-27 lead into halftime.
The Blue Devils shot 9-of-28 (.321) in the opening half from the field and was 2-of-7 (.286) from the three-point arc. Central went 7-of-8 at the foul line and outrebounded SFC, 21-14. Hugley led CCSU with nine points in the opening half, while Kohl had seven points, five rebounds and two assists.
St. Francis scored the first eight points of the second half before Bute got Central on the board in the period. The Terriers would extend their lead to 49-34 after a Jalen Jordan jumper with 16:02 to cap a run of five unanswered points.
The Blue Devils would hit 3-of-4 three-pointers at one point in the second half, but the Terriers hit 11 of their first 12 shots in the second half to keep the lead in double-digits. A three-pointer by Krishnan and two foul shots by Kohl would get CCSU within 59-49.
The Terriers would maintain a double-digit lead for most of the second period until Coleman rolled off nine straight for CCSU. Coleman would hit four straight foul shots before coverting a three-point play. Coleman would hit a layup with 48 seconds to play to get Central within 85-79.
St. Francis would force a turnover to get a layup and score 3-of-4 at the foul line to close the game and hold off CCSU.
The Terriers shot 64 percent in the second half to finish at 31-of-58 (.534) for the game. The Terriers hit 9-of-20 (.450) from the arc and was 19-of-26 (.731) at the foul line.
Glenn Sanabria finished with 25 points and Rosel Hurley added 20 points to pace four Terriers in double-figures.
