Men's Basketball 2018-19 Season Prep Underway
The Blue Devils officially opened practice for the season.
Head coach Donyell Marshall and the Central Connecticut men's basketball team has begun preparations for the 2018-19 season. The Blue Devils are just concluding their opening week of practice as they get ready to open the season.
Central will host Arcadia in an exhibition game on Saturday, Oct. 27, before tipping off the regular season at Hartford on Tuesday, Nov. 6.
CCSU is coming off its most successful season since 2010-11 and returned to the Northeast Conference Tournament for the first time since 2013-14. The Blue Devils return eight letterwinners from last season, including a pair of senior starters in Tyler Kohl and Deion Bute.
Central went 14-18 overall last season, 7-11 in the NEC. Kohl is back after leading the squad in scoring (16.7 ppg), rebounding (8.2 rpg), assists (4.1 apg) and steals (1.4 spg) en route to being named All-NEC Second Team. He was one of just two players nationally to lead his team in all four categories. Bute averaged 10.1 points per game and ranked second in the league, shooting .600 from the floor.
The Blue Devils also return part-time starters in juniors Tyson Batiste and Joe Hugley. Batiste started six games and had a 1.7 assist-turnover ratio in conference play, while Hugley also started six contests and shot .571 from three-point range and averaged 19.7 ppg over the final three contests of the season.
Central has improved its win total in each of Marshall's first two seasons. The Blue Devils will take part in the Jersey Mike's Jamaica Classic in 2018-19, while also facing eight teams that participated in postseason tournaments last year.
