Central Connecticut's Helene Neuhaus has been selected to swim for Estonia at the 2014 European Championship in Berlin, Germany.
Central Connecticut swimming's Helene Neuhaus has been selected to represent Estonia at the 2014 European Championship. The event will be held in Berlin, Germany from August 13 to 24.
Neuhaus established a new Estonian National Record in the 100 meter backstroke, breaking the old record by over a half a second at last summer's Connecticut Senior Championship.
Her time of 1:03.34 not only set the standard and qualified her for the European Championship; it is also less than .56 of a second from qualifying Neuahus to represent Estonia at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio.
"Everyone involved with the CCSU swimming and diving program is proud of Helene for this accomplishment," head coach Bill Ball said on Tuesday afternoon. "She is an extremely hard worker and I believe with her drive and determination she has a great chance to qualify for the upcoming Olympics. We are all happy to have a swimmer of that caliber in our pool every day."
Neuhaus holds the CCSU program record in the 100 yard backstroke and won the 2013 Northeast Conference Championship in the event.
