Swim & Dive Competes in 2nd Day at Bucknell
Five individuals qualified for Saturday's finals competition, along with six relay squads.
The Central Connecticut women's swimming and diving team completed day two of competition at the Bucknell Invitational on Saturday. Five Blue Devils qualified for Saturday's finals races along with six relay squads.
Central was led by freshman Christine Rasile who earned fourth place in the 200 freestyle with her season-best time of 1:52.60. Rasile was one of 24 individuals to qualify for the finals in the event.
Senior Kellen Power claimed seventh of 24 competitors in the 100 butterfly with her time of 58.15 and was followed closely by freshman Sabree Thomas who placed 15th, touching the wall in 58.75.
The final duo of individuals to make the finals did so in the 100 breaststroke event. Senior Kristina Gulia finished ninth in a season-best time of 1:05.83 and was followed by sophomore Alaina Papiro in 1:06.82, also a season-best, good for 12th place.
The Blue Devil 800 freestyle relay squad raced a time of 7:51.74 for eighth place. The team consisted of Rasile, Power, junior Karen Novak and senior Kathryn Kiely. They were followed in 13th by Thomas, sophomore Selene Chilton and freshmen Stephanie Czulewicz and Lisa Ward. The foursome touched the wall in 7:56.95.
In the 200 medley relay, CCSU placed 13th. The squad, made up of Power, Gulia, Thomas and Rasile, touched the wall in 1:50.36. Czulewicz and Papiro, along with freshmen Janel Crespo and Kaysha Dassler came in 15th in 1:52.25.
CCSU has tallied 290 points for seventh place out of 10 squads. After day two, Bucknell leads with 1,285 points and is followed by Fordham (748.50), Delaware (686), Georgetown (606) and LaSalle (477.50).
The Blue Devils will complete the Bucknell Invitational tomorrow, Sunday, Nov. 24. The finals are scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. and fans can follow all of the action via live stats by clicking HERE.
