Swim & Dive Completes Bucknell Invite Sunday
The Blue Devils wrapped up the weekend's competition in seventh place overall.
The Central Connecticut women's swimming and diving team completed competition at the Bucknell Invitational on Sunday, wrapping up the weekend with a seventh-place overall finish. Freshman Christine Rasile led the Blue Devils with the only victory for CCSU. Rasile took first in the 100 yard freestyle with her career-best time of 51.57.
In the 200 breaststroke, senior Kristina Gulia earned a top-10 finish with her season-best time of 2:22.79. She was followed by sophomore Alaina Papiro who touched the wall in 2:28.18 for 14th place. Freshman Lisa Ward finished 18th in 2:28.30.
The 400 freestyle relay squads performed well in Sunday's finals finishing sixth, 14th and 17th. Central's top-finishing team was made up of Rasile, Ward and seniors Kellen Power and Kathryn Kiely. The foursome touched the wall in 3:35.31.
They were followed by junior Karen Novak along with a trio of freshmen: Stephanie Czulewicz, Sabree Thomas and Kaysha Dassler in 3:42.07. Papiro, senior Kristina Gulia, sophomore Selene Chilton and freshman Janel Crespo placed 17th with their time of 3:45.24.
Additional noteworthy Blue Devil performances in the final rounds of the Bucknell Invite included the 1650 freestyle event. Novak (18:00.18), Kiely (18:01.22) and senior Kasey Chilton (18:08.81) finished 16th, 17th and 18th, respectively.
In the 200 backstroke, Czulewicz finished 16th registering a career-best time of 2:09.11.
Selene Chilton and Thomas both qualified for finals competition in the 200 butterfly. Chilton placed 17th overall with her time of 2:11.35 and Thomas touched in 2:11.50.
The Blue Devils finished seventh overall among 10 teams with 461 team points. Bucknell placed first with a final tally of 1,870 and was followed by Fordham (1,092.5), Delaware (935), Georgetown (871) and LaSalle (735.5). Just before CCSU was Binghampton with 572 and Yale, Susquehanna and Penn State rounded out the 10-team field.
