Gulia Qualifies for Second Final at Grand Prix
Senior Kristina Gulia qualified for the finals for the second time during the three day meet on Sunday. She is set to swim in the 100m LC breaststroke finals Sunday evening.
Central Connecticut swimming and diving senior Kristina Gulia qualified for her second finals race during the three-day Austin Grand Prix competition in Austin, TX on Sunday. Gulia finished the morning's 100m long course breaststroke preliminary in 30th place overall with her time of 1:17.56.
Gulia completed Sunday's 100m long course breaststroke finals in 30th place overall with her time of 1:16.58, nearly a second faster than her preliminary time. Her first qualifying time at the Grand Prix came on Friday where she finished the 200m long course breaststroke preliminary in 27th place with her time of 2:46.08. She completed the finals 30th overall, touching the wall in 2:45.58.
"Any time a student-athlete can get a second swim at a national-level meet it speaks volumes about that athlete's ability to race," head coach Bill Ball said on Friday morning. "We're proud of her performance and are excited about the finals."
In addition to Gulia's impressive performances over the weekend in Austin, two other Blue Devils also competed at the Austin Grand Prix.
On Saturday, freshman Christine Rasile, who has enjoyed an impressive inaugural season at CCSU thus far, competed in the 50m long course freestyle preliminary in which she placed 47th overall out of 100 swimmers with her time of 27.76. Rasile also competed Friday in the 100m long course freestyle. She placed 81st overall with her time of 1:01.12.
Kellen Power also raced the 50m long course freestyle Saturday, the senior touched the wall in 29.15. Power also competed on Friday, clocking a 1:06.93 in the 100m long course butterfly for a 70th-place overall finish.
