Cavanaugh Headlines First Week of NEC Awards
Junior keeper Ashley Cavanaugh was named the NEC Defensive Player of the Week.
The Northeast Conference announced its first round of weekly awards for the 2017 season on Monday afternoon, headlining junior goalkeeper Ashley Cavanaugh as the league's Defensive Player of the Week. Cavanaugh made a huge impact in the Blue Devils' season opening shutout win at Atlantic 10 foe, Massachusetts, last Friday.
Cavanaugh denied all five of the Minutewomen's shot attempts as CCSU cruised to a 3-0 road victory. In her first start since September 25 of last season, the Belchertown, Massachusetts product recorded her fourth career shutout.
The third year keeper and the rest of the Central Connecticut women's soccer team (1-0-0) will take the field again this Thursday, August 24 on the road at another A-10 opponent, Rhode Island (1-1-0). The match is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. at the URI Soccer Complex in Kingston, RI.
