Trio of Talent Joins Women's Soccer for Weekend Tournament
The Blue Devils will host UConn, St. John's and Harvard for their first home tournament at CCSU Soccer Field on Friday and Sunday.
The Central Connecticut women's soccer team welcomes St. John's, Connecticut and Harvard to New Britain, CT this weekend for a tournament held at CCSU Soccer Field. Each team will play a pair of matches, one on Friday, Sept. 1 and one on Sunday, Sept. 3. All games will be broadcasted live on NEC Front Row.
The Huskies (0-2-1) and St. John's (2-0-1) will kick off the tournament on Friday at 4:30 p.m. Central (2-1-0) will then challenge Harvard (1-1-0) at 7:00 p.m. On Sunday, the Harvard Crimson will battle with St. John's at 3:30 p.m. Following the first match, the Blue Devils will go head-to-head with UConn at 6:00 p.m.
Admisson for adults is $10 per day. Children under the age of 12 will receive free admission.

GAME NOTES
Harvard • The Crimson head into Friday's match with the Blue Devils will a record of 1-1-0. Harvard most recently fell to Northeastern 0-2 and topped Providence in its home-opener 1-0. Junior Leah Mohammadi scored the team's only goal this season.
Last Season • The defending 2016 Ivy League Champions finished with an overall record of 10-4-3. The Crimson fell to #22 ranked Rutgers in the first round of the NCAA Tournament 3-0 to conclude their 2016 campaign. Harvard is under the direction of the 2016 Ivy League Coach of the Year, Chris Hamblin, now in his second season at the helm.
Series History • The Crimson hold a series advantage of 2-9-1. Exactly one year ago, Sept. 1, 2016 the two squads met in Cambridge, MA where CCSU fell 3-0. The Blue Devils lasted defeated Harvard in back-to-back meeting in 2005-2006, both resulting in a 1-0 win for CCSU.
UConn • Entering Friday, Connecticut holds a record of 0-2-1 still seeking its first victory of the 2017 season. The Huskies tied with Syracuse 1-1, and fell to Yale 0-1, and #15 Rutgers 0-2 thus far. UConn was ranked #14 nationally in the preseason by the United Soccer Coaches, formerly the NSCAA. Head coach, Len Tsantiris, is in his 37th season and surpassed the 500 career win milestone last year.
Last Season • The Huskies topped SMU 1-0 for the 2016 American Athletic Conference Championship and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament before falling to Auburn 4-1 to conclude their postseason run. UConn finished 19-3-1 overall.
Series History • Central's series record with Connecticut stands at 1-14-0 in the Huskies favor. The Blue Devils' lone victory came at Storrs, CT during the 2008 season when CCSU upset its in-state foe 2-1. Last time the two teams met, Central came up short 1-2 on Sept. 4, 2016 at Joseph J. Morrone Stadium.
