Brown Outlasts Women's Soccer 2-1 Sunday
Junior Yo Tachibana scores her first goal as a Blue Devil.
After taking the 1-0 lead on a hot and humid Sunday afternoon at Stevenson-Pincince Field in Providence, RI, the Central Connecticut women's soccer team was unable to hold off Brown, falling to the Bears 2-1. Junior Yo Tachibana scored her first goal as a CCSU Blue Devil.
Central moves it's record to 3-5 on the year and Brown advances to 6-2.
The Blue Devils struck first in the 11th minute of play when junior Charlotte Maurer kicked the ball ahead to senior Kelly Halligan who then tossed a long through ball up the field to Tachibana inside the 18-yard box. Tachibana chipped in her first goal of the season after a tough collision with the Brown keeper who mistimed the play. The assist was Halligan and Maurer's first of the year.
The Bears Celia Story tied up the match at 1-1 with 23:35 left in the first half with a left-footed pivot drive into the bottom left corner of the net. Katy Schimdt and Mikela Waldman were credited for the assist. Brown took a 2-1out of the halftime gate lead in the 55th minute on a header from Star White off of a lofty cross from Waldman.
Junior goalie Ashley Cavanaugh collected six total saves and now holds a record of 3-4 on the season. Halligan and sophomore Anya Borstein both attempted two shots a piece.
The women's soccer team will meet its next challenger back on its home turf in New Britain, CT on Saturday, Sept. 23 as they host the Atlantic 10's Temple Owls at 7:00 p.m.
