Women's Soccer Earns 16th Consecutive United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award
Recipients posted a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher for the 2016-17 academic year.
The Central Connecticut women's soccer team continue to demonstrate commitment to excellence on the field and in the classroom. On Monday Oct. 9, the world's largest soccer coaches' organization, United Soccer Coaches (formally known as the NSCAA), honored the Blue Devils for the 16th straight year with the Team Academic Award for earning a combined team grade point average of 3.0 or higher for the 2016-17 academic year.
The Blue Devils are under the direction of head coach Mick D'Arcy in his 18th season at the helm. D'Arcy, the most winningest coach in program history, praised his team and the athletic academic support staff after recieving the award, "I'm delighted to see our student-athletes recognized for their hard work in the classroom. Special recognition should also go to our fantastic staff in the Student Athlete Academic Center especially Alicia and Inez who both do so much for our team."
CCSU women's soccer combined for a cumulative 3.33 GPA for last academic year. "Our 2016-17 team were Northeast Conference Regular Season Co-Champions. They were also ranked first in the nation (NCAA Division I) for the fewest amount of disciplinary yellow cards."
"This academic award is a terrific testament that our players fully embody the ideals of being a Student-Athlete at CCSU," noted D'Arcy.
