Women's Soccer Post Home Shutout Win vs. Temple Saturday
Blue Devils are back in action on Friday at FDU at 7 p.m.
The Central Connecticut women's soccer team moved to 4-5 overall on the season with its second win in its last three games, a 1-0 home shutout victory over Temple on Saturday night. With the loss the Owls move to 4-4-1 overall on the season.
The Blue Devils open league play on Friday night, Sept. 29 on the road at Fairleigh Dickinson at 7 p.m.
The first half was scoreless and the Owls held an 8-3 advantage in shot, including three shots on goal. Central's junior keeper Ashley Cavanaugh made three stops before the break.
Central began the second half on the offensive attack, and after two close scoring opportunities they finally broke through.
Off a Temple turnover, senior Kelly Halligan fired a quick pass to sophomore teammate Yo Tachibana. Tachibana one-timed a pass by the Temple defense, hit junior Danielle Pearse in stride and Pearse beat the keeper to the lower left corner for the 1-0 lead with 31:05 on the clock.
Cavanaugh was strong the entire game, finishing with five saves to post her fourth win of the season. She made a pair of late saves down the stretch to help preserve the shutout, her fourth of the season.
The Blue Devils play again on Friday night on the road at Fairleigh Dickinson. They won't play again at home until Oct. 13 when they host St. Francis U in the first of three straight NEC home games.
