Women's Soccer Tabbed Second in NEC Preseason Coaches Poll
The Blue Devils were predicted to finish second in the NEC Coaches Poll.
The Central Connecticut women's soccer team was predicted to finish second in the nine-team Northeast Conference Coaches Poll as announced by the league's front office on Monday afternoon. The Blue Devils, who finished last season with an overall record of 9-11-1 as the 2016 NEC runner-up, received one first place vote behind the defending champion Saint Francis Red Flash.
SFU gathered seven first place votes, and Fairleigh Dickinson received one and were picked to finish third in the conference.
Taking the fourth, fifth and sixth places in the poll were Sacred Heart, Bryant, and Robert Morris, respectively. Rounding out the bottom third of the preseason selections, was Wagner (7), LIU Brooklyn (8), and Mount St. Mary's (9).
Central will begin the chase for its ninth NEC Championship on Friday, August 18 in its season opener at Massachusetts. The match is set to start at 4:00 p.m.
On September 1-3, the Blue Devils will hold its first ever CCSU Soccer Tournament hosting Connecticut, St. John's, and Harvard. The women's soccer team will make its first appearance on its home turf on Friday, September 1 against Harvard at 7:00 p.m.
