Women's Lacrosse Wins at Home vs. St. Francis U
Blue Devils move to 2-1 in NEC action this season
The Central Connecticut women's lacrosse team used a big first half run, and then held off a late second half run, on its way to its third win in its last four games on Friday night. The Blue Devils topped St. Francis University 11-10. The win is the second in league play for the Blue Devils who are now 5-7 overall and 2-1 in Northeast Conference action. The Red Flash fall to 4-7 overall and 1-2 in the league.
The game was tied 1-1 before the Blue Devils scored seven straight goals to open an 8-1 lead with under three minutes to play in the half. Sophomore Falynn McCartney had three goals during the run as the Blue Devils dominated a stretch of over 25 minutes in the half.
The Red Flash cut the deficit to 8-2 with just over two minutes to play before halftime but Central responded as McCartney scored her fourth goal of the half to make it 9-2. The Blue Devils led 9-3 at the half. McCartney had four goals while senior Amanda Toke and freshman Marissa Soto each had two.
St. Francis U scored the first goal of the second half before senior Claire Healy scored her first goal of the game to make it 10-4 in favor of CCSU with just over 18 minutes to play in the game. Toke's third goal of the game just minutes later made it 11-4.
The Red Flash answered, scoring the final six goals of the game, including three from Christina Fini, to cut the CCSU lead to 11-10 with four minutes to play in the second half. Central held off the late charge and won for the second time in conference play this season.
McCartney led the offense for CCSU with four goals. Toke added three goals and an assist, while Soto had a pair of goals in the win. Junior Brigit Hogan added a goal and an assist and Healy had one goal in the second half.
Junior goalkeeper Morgan Tullar made nine saves in net to post her fifth win of the season.
Central returns to action on Sunday at 12 noon hosting Robert Morris in NEC action.
